The Bull Run was held on Friday, April 7th.  The  Bull Run is a fitness event that is held each semester that challenges the fitness level of cadets in addition to enhancing their esprit de corps.  The cadets form up the Wing into Squadrons and Flights.  They then run a 1 mile route taking them on neighborhood streets around the school.  The intent is for the cadets to stick together and finish as a formation.  After the 1 mile run is accomplished, the faster runners form up into a separate formation and run a different roughly 1 mile route that includes a tough hill at a more challenging pace.  See the photo below.

Wave the flag!  E. E. Smith Salutes the Military Child

Military Child Appreciation Day will be celebrated  April 13th.   All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to wear purple.  This is our salute in recognition of the service of the children of military personnel who make up 25% of our student body.  To those students and their families, the E. E. Smith Community would like to say, Thank-you.

The Mr. and Mrs. Blue and Gold Pageant will be held during 2nd period in the Main Gymnasium.  Admission is $1 for students.  Students are encouraged to purchase tickets.  Support our faculty members.

The School Improvement Team will meet on Monday at 3:45 in Room A15 to plan the agenda for the April Business Meeting and to hear a presentation about MTSS a CCS pilot initiative for the 2017-2018 school year.  All faculty, parents, students, and interested members of the E. National Youth HIV & AIDs Awareness DayNATIONAL YOUTH

HIV & AIDS AWARENESS DAY 

will be celebrated 4/10/2017.  

 

Did you know that there were 83 new HIV cases in Cumberland County last year.  Below you will find some additional facts about HIV/AIDs.

 

 

Facts about HIV/AIDS in our nation

About 1.2 million people in the United States are living with HIV. Of those people, 1 in 8 don’t know they are infected.

  • In 2014, an estimated 44,073 people were newly diagnosed with HIV. An estimated 20,896 people were diagnosed with AIDS in 2014. Overall, since the beginning of the AIDS epidemic in the early 1980s, an estimated 1,210,835 people have been diagnosed with AIDS.
  • In 2014, 22% of all new HIV diagnoses were among youth aged 13-24.
  • HIV can affect anyone regardless of sexual orientation, race, ethnicity, gender or age. However, certain groups based on their sexual orientation, gender, race/ethnicity, and age are at higher risk for HIV and merit special consideration because of particular risk factors. We have a new activity at E. E. Smith.  Game Day Friday! Students can come in to the Media Center after eating lunch.  Play a game.  Receive a ticket for a drawing.  We added Scrabble and Battleship to this week’s games.  This week’s edition features Teen Easter Baskets!  Filled with teen “stuff.” Thank-you, Mrs. McNeill.  She made up these fantastic baskets!  See the picture below.

The 2017 E. E. Smith High School Prom was held from 8:00 pm to 12:00 am Picture of girls dressed for the Prom.in the Iron Mike Conference Center at Fort Bragg, NC.  We would like to give a great big thank-you to Ms. Black and all of the other organizers of this fantastic event.
